Notes & Limitations
TTS model quirks: Some sounds like /r/ or /ɸ/ (wh) still rely on near-English stand-ins. These will improve with model-level training and future revisions.
Macron support: Long vowels are included in IPA but not all TTS engines honour macron length. This is under active review.
Rolled R: Where appropriate, a rolled /r/ is suggested in the output and noted with hover cues. This remains hard for TTS engines to synthesize.
Audio playback: Only one pronunciation can be played at a time to avoid overlap.
Regional variants: The system currently reflects standard Māori. Dialectal toggles are planned once corpus data becomes available.
Complex phrases: The system is being extended to handle phrase-level pronunciation (preview in the comparison page).
Custom words: The current demo uses preset examples. Soon, you’ll be able to enter any Māori word to get real-time pronunciation support.
